About Fisheries Council of Canada
Since 1915, the Fisheries Council of Canada has been the voice of Canada’s fish and seafood industry, promoting a healthy resource and working to develop an economically sound, market-driven, competitively-structured industry that offers harvesters, employees, and processors secure and stable opportunities and a sustainable future.
Our members make up the vast majority of the fish and seafood production industry in Canada and include Canada’s major seafood processors and importers.
Canada ranks as the 8th largest fish and seafood exporter, with exports of $7 billion in 2018.
Canada is a leader in the adoption of third-party sustainable fisheries certification. Two-thirds of Canadian production is certified, compared to the global average of only 14%.
